The Chesapeake Thrill-Seeker
This build was commissioned by the proud owner of an FJ40 resto-mod, who wanted an FJ43 to add to his stable, one built for highway drives and off-road adventures. His project began with a Land Cruiser that transported produce from farm to supermarket in the Andes, and culminated in the versatile custom ride you see here: An FJ43 that’s over three decades old, customized for our client’s kind of weekend.
What’s bold? Bold is starting with the real deal - the same body that this beast was born with. It’s taking what you’re given, pounding out the imperfections, and replacing or restoring every single part. Bold is about staying true to the original warrior that lies within, and giving it a fresh take rife with custom touches: big, bold tires with extra ground clearance for off-roading, a blacked-out Expedition bumper by The FJ Company, and the king of the off-road rescue - the Warn ZEON 8.
Sure, this FJ43 is technically a weekend driver, but it IS NOT a fragile being - especially under the hood. The fuel-injected Toyota 1FZ engine churns out an estimated 210 hp and offers more flexibility in a number of driving conditions and terrains, not to mention better gas mileage than the stock engine option. Add in the new Old Man Emu suspension, 5-speed manual transmission, front disc brakes and upgraded power steering, and you find a Land Cruiser that’s a force to be reckoned with.
Open the door to this classic Land Cruiser and you’re greeted with our signature blend of classic looks and modern comfort. The 60/40 bench seats are trimmed in weather-resistant Saddle vinyl, the 80’s-style steering wheel, and the dashboard brings back that old-school look with its familiar array of switches and gauges. Turn one knob to change the temperature, or flip a switch to illuminate the road with LEDs. Then, turn up the digital radio and connect your phone. The next song is always driver’s choice.
